Decrease of host resistance in this infection appears to be very specific. Potassium iodide causes non-specific resolution of eosinophilic granuloma. Addition of up to 400 mu g KI/ml, equivalent to X 8 blood level produced by the clinically effective dose, caused no difference in culture size of Basidiobolus haptosporus and B. meristosporus. At X 10 blood level (500 mu g/ml) clinically effective dose, the av. diam. of colonies of 1-week-old B. haptosporus strs. were 8-30% that of controls. Growth of B. meristosporus strs. was not inhibited.
