A case is reported of a 55-yr-old Thai man who died of phycomycosis involving on the right side the tip of the temporal lobe, cerebral peduncle, and portion of the brain forming the cerebellopontine angle. The disease was preceded by severe diarrhoea with subsequent renal tubular necrosis, advanced bronchopneumonia with abscesses and uremia. It is suggested that initial infection was within the right maxillary antrum with secondary invasion of the brain through the haematogenous route. Broad, nonseptate fungal mycelia which branched at obtuse angles were present in the walls and lumena of some cerebral blood vessels and in the brain substance of the affected regions.
