Numerous fungal hyphae resembling those of a phycomycete were found in thrombi, vessel walls, and areas of inflammatory cell infiltration within a large focus of necrosis in the brainstem of a 2-year-old heifer. H. somnus and Pasteurella multocida were isolated from the same lesion. Ante-mortem hyperglycaemia was also demonstrated.
