Haemophilus somnus as a bacterial cause of pneumonia in buffalo calves in Egypt

The bacterium was present in 4.7% of 200 nasopharyngeal swabs from sick calves and 10.4% of 250 samples of pneumonic lungs; it was absent from 50 nasopharyngeal swabs and 50 lung samples from healthy buffalo calves. The strains isolated were resistant to tetracycline and sulfafurazole, but susceptible to gentamicin, ampicillin, benzylpenicillin and colistin sulphate.
