Mild and severe hemorrhagic shock was produced experimentally in apparently healthy male buffalo calves using a slightly modified Wiggers model. Hemorrhagic shock, either mild or severe, resulted in hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, hypochloremia, hypoglycemia, hyperlactic-acidemia and hypoproteinemia. There was a noticeable fall in venous blood pH and plasma bicarbonate levels during severe hemorrhagic shock. The renal function was impaired considerably during severe hemorrhagic shock as indicated by a significant elevation in blood urea nitrogen and plasma creatinine levels.
