The interrelationship between larval dose, egg count and worm load was studied in A. caninum infection. In heavy infections anaemia developed as early as the third week and persisted for about 8 weeks. After this period either improvement was observed or animals died. EosinophilLa occurred in all dogs irrespective of worm load. A decrease in serum albumin occurs after infection. The decrease is most marked in the first 6 weeks of infection. The pathogenesis of the anaemia, and hypoalbuminaemia in A. caninum and human hookworm infection is discussed.
