Dogs four to eight weeks old were infected by artificial exposure to Ancylostoma caninum larvae and were allotted to two groups of 12 dogs each. Dogs in one group were given thiabendazole (TBZ) orally once daily for 70 days (starting two days before exposure to infection) at a dosage of 20 mg/kg body wt. The 2nd group of infected dogs (controls) was not treated. Nine of 12 controls and 4 of 12 treated dogs died of ancylostomiasis. The control dogs had a mean infection of 301 hookworms, 55% more than the treated group. Thia-bendazole treatment suppressed egg production of A. caninitm.
