A serological survey of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis in cattle in Hokkaido, Japan

Neutralizing antibody and indirect haemagglutination tests on 1653 cattle in the 14 counties of Hokkaido revealed specific antibodies in 130 (32.3%) of 402 imported cattle, 25 (4.5%) of 512 cattle reared on farms with imported cattle, and 11 (1.5%) of 739 Japanese cattle. It is concluded that bovine rhinotracheitis was introduced into Japan with imported cattle and has now become widely spread.
