In Feb. 1980, amastigotes of L. donovani were found in smears and impressions from the spleen and liver of a jackal (Canis (Thos) aureus Linne, 1758) out of 4 specimens in a focus of visceral leishmaniasis in the Marneul district, Georgian SSR. [This study has implications for human leishmaniasis.].
