On the helminth parasites of rodents in the Eastern Delta. I. General survey

The incidence of helminths in 876 rodents belonging to four species in Eastern Delta (Lower Egypt) is given. The infections with cestodes and nematodes have been encountered in all rodents, while trematodes have been recorded in all rodenlR except Acomys cahirinus. Acanthoccphala infections are found in Arvicanthis n. niloticus and Ra;ttus norvegicus. The incidence of helminth parasites is fairly similar in males :ind females of A. niloticits niloticus, while V.V. in both R. norvegicus and R.r. rattus, but the reverse is true in A. cahirinuR. The highest incidence of helminth infection is recorded in A. niloticits at Sharkia and the lowest is encountered in A. cahirinus. The incidence of cestode infections encountered during various seasons of the year are higher than each of nematodes, trematodes or ncanthocephala. A correation is made between thf' incidence of helminth parasites, the intensity of infection and the incidence of various helminthic genera in pure and mixed infections.
