Trial of thiabendazole and viprynium embonate in combination for trichuriasis in aboriginal children

At Cherbourg, 160 miles north-west of Brisbane, Australia, 40 Aboriginal primary schoolchildren were treated for Trichuris trichiura infection with 50 mg/kg body-weight of thiabendazole plus 10 mg/kg viprynium embonate for 3 days. 40 Similarly infected children were used as untreated controls. Examination 7 and 30 days after treatment showed no significant differences in worm loads between the 2 groups. In not one of the children did the combined treatment eliminate T. trichiura.
