During an 18-month period nine isolations of Paracolobactrum arizonae were made from diseased sheep from different areas. In four cases diarrhoea was reported. The organism was also isolated from a foetus received from an outbreak of abortion, and in other cases was shown to be a cause of septicaemia. Typing consistently revealed serotype 26:29-30. It is possible that this serotype may be a relatively common inhabitant of healthy sheep and that it may become invasive in stressed or debilitated animals.
