A total of 217 (181 acute gastroenteritis cases and 36 non-gastroenteritis contols) stool samples were collected. A comparison of two methods (ELISA and IEOP) was made for the detection of rotavirus antigen from the stool samples. The validity of the tests was corroborated by the finding of rotavirus infections at various age groups and specific peak months of the study period. ELISA was shown to be more sensitive and could be of high value for routine diagnosis of rotarvirus in acute gastroenteritis.
