Field trials involving 720 lambs were carried out on six farms in Kent and Sussex during the months of May, June and July under conditions of subclinical infection with gastro-intestinal nematodes, chiefly moderate numbers of Nematodirus and smaller numbers of Ostertagia. Over a nine-week observation period beginning when the lambs were four weeks old, improvement in weight gain over controls resulted from dosing on three occasions at three-weekly intervals with tetramisole, thiabendaxole, or a morantel/diethylcarbamazine combination. There was no significant difference between the three treatments. The relative cost of treatment in decreasing order was (retail cost in new pence per animal): thiabendazole, 17.5p, tetramisole 13.5p, morantel/diethylcarbamazine 11.5 p.
