Incorporation of amino acids into rat liver lipids

Intraperitoneally injected DL-valine-1-14C or 14C-labelled algal protein hydrolysate was rapidly incorporated into both the neutral and phospholipid fractions of rat liver. Cycloheximide stimulated the incorporation of label into lipid fractions, reflected in relatively high specific activities in the lipids of the nuclear, mitochondrial, microsomal and cytosol fractions, but not in the plasma membranes of rat liver. In cycloheximide-treated animals, more radioactivity as amino acids was recovered in the aqueous phase than in the ethyl ether phase of the acid hydrolysates of labelled lipids derived from the nuclear, plasma membrane and mitochondrial fractions of liver.
