The Authors describe a case of "family metaphiseal displasia" or "Pyle's disease", which is to be rarely found; it is anomaly of conformation of the skeleton, the metaphysis not having been transformed into the diaphysis, presenting, therefore, a clear prevalence of the first one on the second. Such alterations are causing typical deformations of the long bones, especially of the humerus, of the femur, of the tibia and of the fibula, presenting a quite characteristic radiological appearance. In examining the not rich literature on this matter, the Authors are discussing the pathogenesis and the aetiology of this disease, which, after all, seems to have an hereditary origin.
