In a double-blind trial with 99 women, inhibition of lactation in group (i) given a single dose of 4 mg quinestrol was compared with that in group (ii) given an 8-day treatment with a total of 125 mg stilboestrol. During the 1st 10 days, inhibition of lactation was successful in (i) 42% and (ii) 79%; moderate (slight lactation requiring no additional treatment) in (i) 52% and (ii) 21%; additional treatment was necessary in 6% of (i) during this period.
