A double-blind trial using groups of 30 patients was arranged to test 3 series of apparently identical tablets of which the 1st 2 administered after delivery contained either (i) a placebo, (ii) 5 mg stilboestrol or (iii) 2 mg quinestrol; the remaining tablets were placebos in an attempt to simulate the usual high dose method using stilboestrol.
