Inhibition of puerperal lactation. Double-blind comparison of chlorotrianesene, testosterone enanthate with estradiol valerate and placebo

500 post partum women received oral doses of (i) 300 mg chlorothianesene (C) within 36 h, (ii) 288 mg C within 2 days, or (iii) 432 mg C within 4 days of delivery or intramuscular injection of (iv) 360 mg testosterone enanthate + 16 mg oestradiol valerate immediately post partum or (v) a placebo for the first few days post partum. Treatments (i) - (iii) were significantly (P < 0.05) more effective than (v) in inhibiting lactation and in the relief of breast discomfort, (iv) was significantly (P < 0.01) more effective in inhibiting lactation and significantly (P < 0.02) more effective in relieving breast discomfort than (i) - (iii).
