Sporotrichosis associated with an infected cat

Three cases of human sporotrichosis related to an infected cat are reported in the 42-yr-old male owner of the animal, a veterinarian and a veterinary surgical assistant who had both treated the cat by draining multiple abscesses. The cat's owner developed lesions on the hand and arm after being scratched by the animal. The veterinarian developed lesions on the finger, which later progressed up the left forearm. The female veterinary assistant developed a lesion on the forehead. Sporothrix schenckii was cultured from lesions in the first 2 patients. All 3 patients responded to oral KI therapy.
