Cutaneous sporotrichosis presenting as a keratoacanthoma

A case is reported in a 31-year-old woman from the USA who presented with a 6-week history of a rapidly growing tender nodule on the left lower lip. At the time the lesion had appeared the patient had been gardening. Culture of a shave biopsy specimen yielded Sporothrix schenckii. The patient was successfully treated with itraconazole (200 mg twice daily) given for 4 months.
