Prevalence of dermatophytoses in Jabalpur

Of a total of 16 532 patients examined between Aug. 1978 and July 1979 1771 had clinically diagnosed dermatomycosis. Of the 1771 patients, 1329 were male and 442 female. Tinea corporis was most prevalent (39.13%), followed by tinea cruris (38.11%), tinea pedis (13.38%), tinea capitis (5.13%), tinea unguium (2.42%), tinea barbae (0.95%) and tinea manuum (0.84%). Of 282 isolates cultured 185 were Trichophyton rubrum, 56 Epidermophyton floccosum, 17 T. mentagrophytes, 13 Microsporum gypseum, 8 T. violaceum and 3 T. tonsurans.
