One thousand urban boys and girls of Jabalpur aged 12 to 60 months were subjected to skin-fold measurements at left triceps, left upper quadrant of abdomen and left subscapular. The mean values were higher in girls at all ages studied but the difference was not significant. The subscapular fold showed the closest relation to sex, income, bodyweight and height. Body-weight increased most with unit increase in subscapular skin-fold thickness followed by the upper quadrant of abdomen and triceps skin-folds. With unit increase in subscapular skin-fold thickness the increments in bodyweight were larger in boys of all income groups than in girls. This increase in bodyweight was more apparent in children of lower income groups. With unit increase in subscapular skin-fold thickness the increments in height were greater in boys than in girls and in children of lower than in those of high income groups.
