2. Preschool children in Calcutta, 3102, were examined clinically. Diet study showed that their protein intake was adequate but no child got enough energy. Incidence of marasmus was 1.83%, of kwashiorkor 0.19%; 1.87% had 3 or more signs of protein or energy malnutrition. Incidence of vitamin A and vitamin B complex deficiency ranged from 0.03 to 3.25%. Nearly 2% of children aged 1 to 3 years had active rickets; 25% were anaemic and 36% had worms.
