Immune profile of children with lower respiratory tract infection in relation to nutritional status

Comparative immune profile of children with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) in relation to nutritional status revealed an elevation of serum immunoglobulins, elevation of C3 component of complement with unaltered C4 level, depressed T cell counts and an elevated B cell counts in both malnourished as well as well-nourished children. However, there was no significant difference of any of the immune parameters in between the malnourished and well-nourished groups of LRTI cases. The significance of these findings is discussed.
