Considerable changes in the incidence of dermatophytoses in the Donetsk region have been observed in the past 23 yr: trichophytosis and favus have practically disappeared, and Microsporum canis infection of the scalp and glabrous skin has been diagnosed in 99.3% of patients. Periodicity of disease incidence was every 4 yr but reached a peak in 1974. In the rural population, disease incidence in the study period declined sharply and shows a trend for further decline. At the same time, in the urban population, disease incidence remained high, with a trend since 1980 for further increase. The diseases were found to be most frequent among 1-4th yr schoolboys during Nov.-Feb.
