Oxamniquine given orally at 60 mg/kg body-weight has been very effective against Schistosoma mansoni in Zimbabwe, although for children the dose may be more advantageously related to surface area. Oxamniquine was also effective, when used with steroid therapy, in the treatment of acute schistosomiasis (Katayama fever). The low toxicity of the drug and absence of side effects are discussed.
