Adults were given a single intramuscular dose of oxamniquine at 7.5 mg/kg body-weight and other adults and children given single oral doses at 15 mg/kg (capsules or syrup) or 20 mg/kg (syrup). Intramuscular injection was always painful but gave the most prolonged serum drug levels and the highest cure rates, whereas capsules gave the highest serum levels. Syrup gave the lowest and least prolonged serum levels. Ways of modifying oral administration so as to increase and prolong serum drug levels are considered.
