The treatment of schistosomiasis with niridazole in Britain

In Britain, a non-endemic area, 28 patients with Schistosoma mansoni, 17 with S. haematobium, and 2 with mixed infections, were treated with niridazole at 8 mg. per kg. body-weight, 3 times a day for 10 days. 42 of 43 patients examined 3 to 6 months after treatment were negative for ova in stools, and/or rectal snips, or urine. Electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms and transaminase levels of patients, before, during and after treatment, are discussed.
