Insecticide susceptibility status of some common mosquitoes in Pondicherry

The susceptibility status of adult Culex fatigans, C. tritaeniorhynchus, C. whitmorei, C. sitiens, Anopheles stephensi, A. subpictus, Aedes aegypti and Armigeres subalbatus from Pondicherry to DDT, dieldrin, malathion, fenthion, fenitrothion and propoxur was determined. C. fatigans, C. whitmorei and A. subpictus were highly resistant to DDT and dieldrin but susceptible to the organophosphorous compounds and carbamates tested. C. tritaeniorhynchus was resistant to dieldrin. Other species tested were susceptible to all the insecticides tested. Larvae of C. fatigans, A. stephensi, A. subpictus and Aedes aegypti were still susceptible to DDT and .gamma.-BHC.
