Standard World Health Organization methods for assessing the susceptibility or resistance of adult and larval mosquitoes to insecticides are described, and the evaluation of their results is discussed. Other test methods are also mentioned. Recent work on the biochemical mechanisms of resistance and cross-resistance are reviewed, together with possible countermeasures for the problem of insecticide resistance, now known in 113 species of Culicidae. Tables are presented listing the species that are resistant to different kinds of insecticides in various countries.
