Tinea capitis in school children in London

Four main racial groups of children were investigated over 12 yr. An increase was noted in the incidence of scalp ringworm. Of 400 cases caused by Microsporum spp., 370 were due to M. audouinii, 17 to M. rivalieri, 9 to M. langeronii and 4 to M. ferrugineum. Of 231 cases caused by Trichophyton 84 were due to T. soudanense, 64 to T. tonsurans, 59 to T. violaceum, 11 to T. gourvilii, 7 to T. yaoundei, 3 to T. schoenleinii, 2 to T. megninii and 1 to T. rubrum.
