All mixtures were active in the P388 mouse leukemia system, but the metal salts were inactive in this system. These biologic results suggest that the antitumor activity is produced by 1 or more complex species formed from amino acids and metal salts. Glycine can form 2 species with Pt (II) ions. Mixtures of L-glutamine and potassium tetrachloroplatinate (II) (molar ratio 3:2), L-glutamine and potassium tetrachloropalladate (II) (molar ratio 1:1) and L-serine and potassium tetrachloroplatinate (II) (molar ratio 4:1) showed minimal or no activity in the lymphoid L1210 leukemia test system.
