A new thawing fluid, OLEP, based on the electrolyte composition of seminal plasma and using pyruvate and fructose as energy sources, was used to dilute frozen ejaculates from 1 Large White and 2 Swedish Landrace boars. Of 15, 14 and 14 gilts inseminated with frozen semen thawed in seminal plasma, OLEP, or OLEP + EDTA, 8, 9 and 8 resp. conceived; litter size averaged 8.8, 9.2 and 6.5 resp., and the ratio of foetuses to corpora lutea 0.65:1, 0.72:1 and 0.58:1.
