Groups each of 8 calves, were vaccinated i/m with three 1-ml doses of a formalin-killed M. bovis culture given at intervals of 7 days (group I), 14 days (group II), or 21 days (group III). Fourteen days after the last vaccination 0.5 ml of a suspension of a virulent homologous culture was instilled into the conjunctival sac of both eyes. The challenge bacterium became established in all of the control and group I calves, in 7 of group II and 5 of group III calves. Keratoconjunctivitis developed in 8 controls, 6 group I, 1 group II and 2 group III calves. It was concluded that at least 14 days be allowed between successive doses of this vaccine.
