Calves (29) 9-15 mo. old were used to study immunogenicity of blood culture-derived B. bovis antigens reduction and eliminated parasites from the circulation faster than controls. Of 7 (57%) non-treated control animals, 4 died as compared with 3 of 14 (21%) animals vaccinated with corpuscular or soluble Ag + FIA (equivalent to a 63% reduction in mortality). Ease of preparation, freedom from erythrocyte stroma and protective properties of soluble Ag make this fraction of infected erythrocyte culture supernatant an attractive source of immunogens for further study.
