Isolation of Mycoplasma bovoculi and Acholeplasma oculi from outbreaks of infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis

In three outbreaks of bovine keratoconjunctivitis in July in Scotland, Moraxella bovis was isolated from just under half the affected animals sampled, and from three normal calves. M. bovoculi was isolated on all three farms, occurring alone in four animals, and with M. bovis in another four. A. oculi, isolated from three animals on two farms, occurred only in clinically affected animals and only in association with M. bovis. This is thought to be the first record of the isolation of A. oculi from cattle, although it has been found in sheep and goats.
