Antigen isolation and the applicability of a microvariant of the complement fixation reaction in infectious bovine rhinotracheitis

Comparative investigations were carried out on 3 IBR cellular cultural antigens with regard to the CF-micromethod, produced by different methods. The best qualities with regard to sensitivity and specificity were reached by the antigen concentrated by ultracentrifuging. High coincidence rate was observed in discovering IBR antibodies in the blood serums of cows through the CF and VNR tests--96% of the positive and negative results although the CF reaction showed lower sensitivity. A conclusion was drawn out that the CF method can be quite successfully used for mass serological investigations for finding the immune status of the herd in IBR.
