D. congolensis was isolated from lesions on the back, flanks, neck, head and udders of cattle in the Netherlands. It was supposed that the infection was transmitted by flies from horses in the neighbouring field, which at the time of investigation showed symptoms of healed dermatomycosis (suspected trichophytosis).
