Dermatophilosis (cutaneous streptothricosis) in owl monkeys

Proliferative encrustations on the head or around the ears, nose and mouth were observed in 5 imported owl monkeys (Aotus trivirgatus). Dermatophilus congolensis was identified by microscopic examination of skin scrapings, and in culture on blood agar. One animal, whose general condition was poor, did not respond to treatment, but the others recovered within 2 weeks when given a 10 day course of penicillin.
