Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis: immunologic and antibiotic therapy

Of 10 patients studied immunologically and treated with amphotericin B, transfer factor or both, 5 had developed Candida albicans infections after they were 5 yr old, had less severe immunological deficits and responded to treatment with amphotericin B. Of the 5, 4 had remissions of 12-38 months and 2 had possible recovery of immunological function. The other 5 developed candidiasis in infancy and had severe impairments of cellular immunity. Two of these patients have remained free of cutaneous candidiasis >2 yr after treatment with amphotericin B and transfer factor.
