An analysis was made of the male ancestors of 104 German Black Pied cows with left-sided displacement of the abomasum and 104 control cows in the same herds. Indices of relationship showed that the affected cows were significantly more closely related to each other than were the control cows. In the 228 bulls which occurred as ancestors in the pedigrees of affected cows as well as of control cows, the mean frequency of entry in the affected group was 3.13 (1-23) v 2.95 (1-18) in the control group.
