The techniques and findings of transruminal palpation of the abomasum in the permanently fistulated dairy cow are described. A method is given whereby a projection of the abomasum can be made on the surface of the cow's abdomen. The value of being able to monitor the position, size, consistency and shape of the abomasum of the live cow is considered.
