Topical treatment with clotrimazole in dermatomycosis

The effect on superficial mycoses of clotrimazole, applied topically as a 1% cream, was evaluated in an open study of 32 patients with dermatomycosis (17 infected with Candida albicans or C. parapsilosis, 9 with Trichophyton rubrum, 5 with T. mentagrophytes and 1 with Epidermophyton floccosum). Clinical healing was seen in 12 cases (3 with condidiasis and 9 with tinea), a marked improvement in 13 (10, 3) and slight improvement in 4. All mycological examinations were negative at 4 weeks.
