An outbreak of pleuropneumonia among a group of baconers. Pathological and bacteriological observations

Among 127 pigs about 6 months old, 81 were found to have pleuropneumonia when slaughtered, and 11 were condemned. One pig died from pneumonia during transport. Necrotic foci were present in 44 of 70 lungs. Haemophilus parahaemolyticus was isolated from 51 of 70 lungs. Since the owner had not noticed any illness in the pigs prior to transport to the abattoir, the condition may have developed into acute infection during transport and lairage.
