Strains (135) of group D streptococci were classified into the various divisions and species as recommended by Facklam. Among the tests employed, growth at 45.degree. C and on 40% bile were most reliable besides group D serology for group identification. Growth at 10.degree. C, at pH 9.6 and in a concentration of 6.5% NaCl, acid production in litmus, inability to hydrolyze starch and liquefy gelatin, and fermentation of lactose and arabinose were reliable for speciation of the strains. A high percentage of the isolates was sensitive to ampicillin and mandelamine but exhibited relative resistance to the other drugs tested.
