A selective and differential medium was developed for the rapid isolation and presumptive identification of group B streptococci. This consists of Islam's medium, which differentiates group B strains, with neomycin, nalidixic acid and metronidazole used as selective agents. In a study with human clinical specimens, 110/110 group B streptococci were successfully isolated and correctly identified using this medium.
