An organism suspected on its size, appearance and movement and on circumstantial evidence as being the mesocercaria of Alaria sp. was observed during 1972 in the retina of a patient admitted to hospital in Toronto, Canada, complaining of decreased visual acuity of the left eye. Pathological evidence indicated that the parasite had entered the eye through the conjunctiva and the discovery that the patient had been in the habit of catching and eating frogs (a host of Alaria sp.) suggested that transfer occurred during the preparation of the frog thigh muscles for eating. Direct and surrounding argon laser applications destroyed the offending organism and the patient's vision subsequently improved.
