The sensory papillae on the surface of the oral and ventral suckers and around the genital pore of H. ovis from sheep are of one type, the rest of the body is covered by spines, which are variable in size and are mostly branched at their tips. The irritation of the host intestinal mucosa produced by the spines increases the pathogenic effect of the parasite.
