The taxonomic status and relationships of members of the family Bucephalidae are reviewed at some length. Knowledge of life-cycles and developmental stages is often so meagre that systematic determinations must remain tentative. Within the subfamily Bucephalinae, 6 species in which the collecting ducts open into the anterior end of the excretory vesicle and 11 species in which they open into the sides of the excretory vesicle are listed. Within the subfamily Prosorhynchinae, Rudolphinus n.g. is erected for Prosorhynchus crucibulum on the grounds of fundamental differences from P. squamatus in the morphology of the cercarial tail stem and excretory system and in the conical shape of the rhynchus in the adult. It is possible that other species of Prosorhynchus in Manter's (1953) group II [see Helminthological Abstracts 22, 434u] also belong to the new genus.
